[BOO] Halloween şi Concurs

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Covers Reveal: October Reveals

Sunday, October 21, 2012
I've been away for a couple of weeks, well now away away but I couldn't post on the blog although I still have many reviews to write. All this time I witnessed a couple of cover reveals from some of my favorite authors and even though is a little bit late I will need to post them here as well.

Downpour (Ember #2) by Madison Daniel
I loved the first book and I can't wait for the second one. I like the fact that simplicity of this cover makes it so hypnotizing. It's awesome and it sort of has a calming effect.
Lucas Ryan Versus by Madison Daniel
This is a new series of the author and just looking at the cover you can tell so much about the story. Unfortunately we will still need to wait for 2013 to actually read it.

Hidden Wings by Cameo Renae
Seventeen is a life changing age for Emma Wise.
As her family's sole survivor in a car crash, she is left with a broken arm and a few scrapes and bruises. But these are only outward marks; inside, her heart is broken and the pieces scattered.
Whisked away to Alaska, to an aunt she’s never met, Emma starts over. Secrets unveil themselves and now…she doesn't even know who or what she is.
A centuries old prophecy places Emma in the heart of danger. Creatures of horrifying and evil proportions are after her, and it will take Emma, her aunt, and six, gorgeously captivating Guardians to keep her safe. But, if she can survive until her eighteenth birthday... things will change.

Opal (Lux #3) by  Jennifer L. Armentrout
No one is like Daemon Black.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger... and they know it.
Shadows Obsidian Onyx Opal

Apollyon (Covenant #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
God I can't stop staring at this. The entire Covenant series has the same theme and the same style just different flowers and colors and I can't stop but thinking how good would look all of them in my shelves. :))

Daimon Half-Blood Pure Deity Elixir Apollyon

Review: Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Sunday, October 21, 2012
“Kitten, your mind is a terrible and dirty place.”

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…
The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

  But then everything changes…
I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Where to buy: Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I tried, I really tried to stay as far as possible from this book because I knew that once I will finish it I will want Opal a.s.a.p. and that will be out in December. Well, I’ve read it and after finishing it I stayed alone in my dark room thinking at what I have just done.
After finishing Onyx I could only think this: I loved Obsidian, but the second book was a thousand times better. There were parts in which I could feel my heart racing along with the characters’ and parts in which I was simply afraid to breath or blink because I was sure that I will miss something (silly me, the book is mine and I can re-read it). This was had definitely much more action and I absolutely loved the fact that the villain was the most dangerous being on Earth and maybe in the Universe, much more dangerous than the Arum: humans, more precisely The Department of Defense aka DOD. Now those people really scared me, they seemed to be everywhere, know everything and stop at nothing to carry out their plans. The entire book was all about who Kat should trust and who she shouldn’t, it was about some bad decisions she made that lead at some heartbreaking consequences.
I loved Kat; I enjoyed her evolution in this book. I liked watching her grow and learn how to defend herself, wanting to be able to protect for once Damon, Dee and her mother. She turned out to be a kick ass chick, that in her spare time likes to read and post reviews on her blog, while having Daemon all over her (and sometimes literary). I also liked how their relationship had a natural course and was not forced from the first book or first look (it was obvious that it was physical attraction at first sight and not love). Their dialogue was still funny, they were always the source of funny scenes, but they were also so great together in the action ones.
Like I said, it was heartbreaking at one point and I was in denial for two chapters when I realized that that was it, it was over and no, I won’t say what it was, but it was something unexpected.
So basically Onyx had it all from humor to action to drama and a slightly confusing ending. That would be why I need to read Opal now. I thought about trying to hibernate until December (must…try…to…survive).

Chapter 1. Surprises
At that very moment I was sending Eileen a dream, a memory about her first meeting with Christian. I wasn’t there myself, but I was sure that memory was a good one, not like most of the nightmares she had so often.
“Hurry up, Evan! They are waiting,” whispered Amanda, tugging on my sleeve.
“I know. I’m almost done here,” I said, making sure Eileen was sleeping peacefully as I followed Amanda to the door.
Eileen’s father, Frederic Fairey used to control her dreams, but in the light of recent events that duty was imposed upon me. After Christian’s kidnapping we tried to protect her as much as possible. We made sure she was never alone, we always watched her movements and activities, which made her really mad. I didn’t get much pleasure from her constant complaints, but eventually they were somewhat successful and I gave up and left her alone for a while, taking a break from our 24/7 watch. However, I couldn’t let her stay without any protection, so I made sure some of my sophisticated spells surrounded her mind and her room. Of course, she knew about my tricks, but said nothing.
Just like everyone else, she was worried about Christian. The two of them had a very strong bond, so it was pretty hard to compare our feelings to hers. Their bond was magical. It was created in order to protect Eileen from being killed, as she was the daughter of a very powerful magician and on the day of her eighteenth birthday she inherited all of her father’s powers that so many people wanted to get. Christian was her personal Keeper. His life was a guarantee for her safety. And now he was gone, leaving her to be an easy target for everyone who wanted her dead.
I had never seen Eileen so determined to do something. She blamed herself for Christian’s kidnapping and wanted to find him as soon as possible. She wasn’t crying or suffering openly, though I was pretty sure she badly wanted to do both. I couldn’t feel her emotions, but the sadness in her eyes spoke for itself. The colors of her aura were changing so fast that sometimes I couldn’t read it because I was completely lost in the crazy amount of emotions consuming her soul.
We still didn’t know where Christian was, so we decided to ask some more people for help. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to find out who those people were. Neither did Amanda, whose father Patrick Fairey together with Frederic were the leaders of our so called searching force. Even our friend Darcy Steward agreed to stay in Dever despite her recent graduation.
“Where is everyone?” wondered Amanda, entering Patrick’s office five minutes later. Her father seemed to be awake day and night, working non-stop and coming up with new ideas on how to find Christian. There was nothing more important to him than saving his son’s life.
“Already coming,” he said, without taking his eyes off the papers he was holding in his hands.
Personally, I had a better question – “Who was coming?”
But before Patrick could say anything else, I felt the vibrations of one familiar aura… or rather two of them! My elder brother Kevin appeared on the threshold. And that was just the first surprise, because next to him I saw Tara Mackenzie…
