On my Wish List (15): The Forever Gate by Isaac Hooke

Tuesday, May 21, 2013
Ok, so technically I have four out of five books, 3 reviewed and  one on the way and I don't know how to stress this enough, but I love the series and I think at the moment might be my favorite SF book so far.

And now, what exactly is on my wish list? The paperback version which includes all five books in just one and which looks great

Where to buy: The Forever Gate Compendium

Don't they look great in one pile, in paperback?

On my Wish List (14): Plague Town (Ashley Parker #1) by Dana Fredsti

Sunday, January 13, 2013
I might be in a really bad zombie mood lately. I so want to read this book because of the zombies combined with the Buffy style chick.
The Plague Town buffy style chick
Ashley was just trying to get through a tough day when the world turned upside down.
A terrifying virus appears, quickly becoming a pandemic that leaves its victims, not dead, but far worse. Attacked by zombies, Ashley discovers that she is a 'Wild-Card' -- immune to the virus -- and she is recruited to fight back and try to control the outbreak.
It's Buffy meets the Walking Dead in a rapid-fire zombie adventure!

Where to buy: Plague Town (Ashley Parker #1) by Dana Fredsti

 Some thoughts from Goodreads:

James Jackson:
What sets this novel apart from others is the writing style. Told in 1st person using Ashley as the primary character, the reader is pulled into her scholastic world as she makes snide comments and struggles with academia.
 Shiloh (SnarkyWriter):
Plague Town is a classic zombie tale, which you'd expect from a screenwriter/actress who worked on Army of Darkness, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead. It's blurbed as "Buffy meets The Walking Dead" and that's not far off; the wild cards are just enough extra-normal to give them an edge in zombie-fighting, but normal (and untrained) enough to be in real danger from the zombies.
 OpenBookSociety.com:

I’ve never been a big fan of zombie books. They’re usually really gross and too detailed. For the most part, I steer clear of these type of books. That said I couldn’t put it down! It’s that good!

On my Wish List (13): In My Dreams by Cameo Renae

Monday, September 10, 2012

It was happening again. The dreams. The nightmares. It was something seventeen year-old Elizabeth "Lizzy" Hayes thought she'd outgrown; dreams that would come true; detailed premonitions of how people would die. This time she dreams about her boyfriend, Michael Young, and soon discovers that he's been found... dead.
Michael hasn't crossed over because he was murdered, and now his murderer is coming for Lizzy. His spirit won't rest until she is safe, and as a newbie spirit, the easiest way for him to make contact is through Lizzy's dreams. When she dreams, it's as if he hasn't died.
Lizzy must learn to pull on her inner strength to survive horrifying events. Meanwhile, in the spirit world, Michael learns everything he can about his supernatural gifts to help. But will it be enough to save her?

On my Wish List (12): Dreams of Darkness by Barry James

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Jordan Hanson was having a bad day. His girlfriend was acting distant, his cat had run off, his car was leaking oil, there was something screwy with the electrical system in his new house, and to top it all off he got caught in a storm. By the end of the day, though, Jordan would have given anything to get his old life back.           Or any life at all, for that matter. Even an undead existence in which he was not about to be used as a tool to end the world would have been better than nothing....

Some thoughts from Goodreads:

Sheri rated it 5 of 5 stars false
I have been a fan of the horror genre for many years, and this book did not disappoint. The writing style was amazing with such attention to detail that it was easy to picture in your head what was going on.
Life After Undeath rated it 4 of 5 stars false
An engrossing blend of horror and urban fantasy, I really enjoyed Barry James' easy writing style. Too often, authors tend to be overly verbose and seem to enjoy right-clicking on the thesaurus function to find the most "intellectual" word to use. James' writing is natural. It flows and his descriptions are fun and effective. Jordan is not simply a vessel for the story, he is a rich, detailed character whom I enjoyed getting to know.

♥ Lace ♥ Vintage rated it 4 of 5 stars false
I was pleasantly surprised with dreams of darkness, from the Synopsis & the genre I thought it was just going to be a run of the mill horror novel but it turned out to be so much more. I also really enjoyed a male point of view, from both the character & author for a change.

On my Wish List (9): Anna dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Wednesday, June 06, 2012
I must admit that although I've seen everyone getting excited over this book I wasn't really interested in the subject  of it. Now the book will be released in Romania at Leda Books and today was the first time I've actually read the description. I don't know how on earth could I've missed such an original book, not to mention that I've always loved the cover.

Synopsis:

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead. So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.
When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home. And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.
Where to buy: Anna dressed in Blood by  Kendare Blake

Some Goodread thoughts:
Lisa Desrochers rated it 5 stars

"This book is just bunches of WOW and OMG! You won't be able to put it down! Promise!
Emily May rated it 4 stars
"Anna Dressed in Blood was a surprisingly good read. I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting, something typical of young adult urban fantasy perhaps... same old characters, lots of romancing, maybe even an interesting little mystery to give the book some semblance of plot if we're lucky. I was really quite pleased with this exciting, slightly spooky, and wholly entertaining start to the series."

On my Wish List (8): Ember by Madison Daniel

Saturday, June 02, 2012
I loved the cover since I've seen it for the first time and after all this time I've watched some reviews and I ended up to actually want it desperately. I still hope it will also be published in our country. So here it goes:

Ember is the story of Max Valentine, a teenager with secret abilities and many inner demons. His life revolves around music and his love for it. When his father dies he seeks answers with his last living relative, his fathers brother Frank. Frank lives on the island of Maui and eagerly takes Max in as his own. Max soon learns that healing his past will be more difficult than he could have ever believed. Two major complications will tempt and torment him as he tries to make sense of his abilities.

The first temptation comes in the form of a mysterious island girl. Asia Lyn Michaels is rich, spoiled, angry and beautiful. Her path crosses with Max on the beach one afternoon, forever changing both of their lives. Max saves her life and she discovers his secret. From that moment on they are connected, no matter how much they fight it.

The second temptation will test Max’s very soul. Samantha Ann Summers is sweet, artistic, smart and confident. She will help Max find his smile again and maybe even heal his past mistakes. She is possibly his soul mate and Max will fight that with every fiber of his being.

Max’s temper and indecision with the girls will send in motion events that will cost him dearly. He will test the limits of his powers and the new relationship with his protective uncle. He will gain a powerful love and lose another.

Some Goodread thoughts:

Teresa rated it 4 stars
"To say the least I found this book hard to put down. The writing was clever in the sense that it was nearly impossible not to ignore the break in chapters and continue on..."
Tammy Owens rated it 5 stars
"This story was so refreshing and different!
I loved the style used with the song play list at the beginning of chapters as you read along. I could hear the song playing in the background (in my mind) as I read along.
"
 Mauna rated it 5 stars
"Wow! When I saw this cover it spoke to me and I knew I had to read this book. Next I found that the author included music. When there is music that goes along with the story I find myself more emotionally connected. I listened to the soundtrack while I waited for my book to arrive...I wanted a hard copy of that cover."

Wednesday, May 23, 2012
Liam O’Connor should have died at sea in 1912.Maddy Carter should have died on a plane in 2010.
Sal Vikram should have died in a fire in 2029.

Yet moments before death, someone mysteriously appeared and said, ‘Take my hand . . .’

But Liam, Maddy and Sal aren’t rescued. They are recruited by an agency that no one knows exists, with only one purpose – to fix broken history. Because time travel is here, and there are those who would go back in time and change the past.
That’s why the TimeRiders exist: to protect us. To stop time travel from destroying the world . . .

When Maddy mistakenly opens a time window where and when she shouldn’t have, Liam is marooned sixty-five million years ago in the hunting ground of a deadly – and until now – undiscovered species of predator.

Can Liam make contact with Maddy and Sal before he’s torn to pieces by dinosaurs – and without endangering history so much that the world is overtaken by a terrifying new reality?

In 1993 British computer hacker Adam Lewis finds his name in a coded manuscript that is almost one thousand years old. How did Adam’s name get in there . . . and why?

Confronted by Adam in 2001, the TimeRiders travel back to Sherwood Forest in 1193 to discover the origins of the ancient message. But when a strange hooded man appears interested in the same thing, they begin to wonder what terrible threat this cryptic link from the past holds for the future...

A time wave has struck that alters the entire history of the American Civil War. Abraham Lincoln has followed Liam into the present from 1831 – and now the world is in a dangerous state of limbo . . .
If the TimeRiders can’t return Lincoln to the past, the Civil War will never end. Can Maddy persuade two colonels on either side of no man’s land to cease fire long enough to save the future?

Project Exodus – a mission to transport 300 Americans from 2070 to 54AD to overthrow the Roman Empire – has gone catastrophically wrong. Half have arrived seventeen years earlier, during the reign of Caligula.
Liam goes to investigate, but when Maddy and Sal attempt to flee a kill-squad sent to hunt down their field office, all of the TimeRiders become trapped in the Roman past.
