Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Sunday, December 18, 2011
Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever...
Every time I start a vampire book I am a little skeptical since vampires are on right now thanks to Twilight and you have that impression that authors may have remained without original ideas. I was really surprised when I found out that I liked the book...a lot. First of all has aspects from the Romanian mythology such as moroi and strigoi, a little different from the original myths but is still nice to see an author using this part of the mythology.
Second, even though romance exists in this one, friendship is much more important to Rose. She want's to protect Lisa from  herself and the bad guys.
Now about Rose, she is strong, protective...much more mature than other female characters from an YA novel. She does remind me  a lot of Buffy, maybe that is why I enjoyed it so much.
I did had some small problems such as: Rose being to much preoccupied with her physical aspect  and her social status. I know that she is still a teenage and that would be a normal, but she is a guardian, who cares what other think about you?
In other words I highly recommend  you this one if you are a vampire books fan.

Zombies Here, There, Everywhere

Sunday, November 27, 2011

So I was recently watching a zombie Tv-Show, nothing is better than seeing brains flying around a room at 4 a.m. Yes there was a lot of blood but I thought I should try something new around this area. So here it is. What I've seen? An episode of:

Dead Set

During a fictional series of Big Brother, a zombie outbreak occurs, but the house-mates are unaware of the impending doom outside of the Big Brother House.

This one is a tv mini-series and it has a total of 5 episode. I found it ok and it reminded me a little of The walking Dead.

So here you have a trailer, don't be fooled, the actual show is better than it shows the trailer:

The walking Dead

Waking up in an empty hospital after weeks in a coma, County Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) finds himself utterly alone. The world as he knows it is gone, ravaged by a zombie epidemic. The Walking Dead tells the story of the weeks and months that follow after the apocalypse. Based on Robert Kirkman's hugely successful and popular comic book series, AMC's The Walking Dead is an epic, edge-of-your-seat drama where personal struggles are magnified against a backdrop of moment-to-moment survival. A survivalist story at its core, the series explores how the living are changed by the overwhelming realization that those who survive can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth. They themselves have become the walking dead.
